# Removal

If this is your first time working in landscape sections, we recommend reviewing the [Beds article](https://support.elevationadvisor.com/en-us/article/beds-begin-here-if-you-are-just-getting-started-with-sections-147cu76/) first. It walks through the basics and uses the same sample project referenced here.

In the [Elevation Advisor Sample Design](https://elevation-knowledgebase.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/Proposals/Sections/sample_design.pdf)
, there’s a large **concrete patio** in the **blue-outlined Patio Area** that needs to be removed before installing a new paver patio.

### Adding the Removal Section

If you haven’t already added a **Removal** section to your proposal:

* Click **Edit** in the top right corner.

* Select **Removal** from the template library.

* Click **Save** to add it to your proposal.

### Measuring the Removal Area

Open the **Removal** section and enter the dimensions of the area to be removed.

![Figure 1: Entering measurements for the Removal Section.](https://elevation-knowledgebase.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/Proposals/Sections/Images/Removal_1.png =500x264)

In our example:

* Width: **10’**

* Depth: **4”**

You can enter these values in the measurements grid, or simply input **150 sqft** under **Square Footage** if you prefer a single value.

### Truck Time Setup

Below the measurements grid is the **Truck Time** section. This helps calculate how long it will take to haul away debris.

* If you're using your own equipment, **uncheck** the **Haul-Off Service** box.

* If you're hiring a company, **leave it checked** and fill out the following fields:

![Figure 2: Entering haul-off service if needed.](https://elevation-knowledgebase.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/Proposals/Sections/Images/Removal_2.png =800x368)

**Truck Time Fields:**

* **Truck Size**: Capacity in cubic yards

* **Truck to Site**: Minutes from truck yard to job site

* **Truck to Dump**: Minutes from job site to dump site

* **Truck Load Time**: Minutes to load one full truck

* **Material Growth**: Estimated expansion of debris once removed

Once filled out, the system will calculate how long you’ll need the truck and display it in the **Haul-Off Service** line.

### Materials & Labor

Scroll down to the **Materials/Labor** section. You’ll see two preset line items:

* **Removal/Disposal**

* **Haul-Off Service** (if selected)

To assign materials:

* Click **Connect Item** next to **Removal/Disposal**.

* In our example, we selected **Disposal Fee – Concrete**.

* The system will auto-calculate **Unit Cost** and **Total Cost**.

To add labor manually:

* Double-click **Crew Hours** and enter **2 hours** to remove 5 yards of concrete.

* A popup will ask if you want to apply this time (24 minutes per yard) to future proposals.

For **Haul-Off Service**:

* Click **Connect Item** and choose from the **Disposal** category in the materials sidebar.

### Finalizing the Section

Once materials are set, you can:

* Change Crew Size, Add labor, equipment, or subcontractors

* Enter a **Description of Services** to explain the scope of work

* Add **Crew Notes** for internal communication

If you need help with these steps, refer to the **Beds article**, which walks through the process in detail.
