Pavers

If this is your first time working in landscape sections, we recommend checking out the Beds article first. It walks through the basics and uses the same sample project referenced here.

In the Elevation Advisor Sample Design, there is a large paver patio is being installed.

Adding the Pavers Section

If you haven’t already added a Pavers section:

  1. Click Edit in the top right corner.

  1. Select Pavers from the template library.

  1. Click Save to add it to your proposal.

Figure 1: Entering measurements for the Pavers Section.

Open the Pavers section and enter the length and width of your patio in the measurements grid.

In our example:

  • Subsection 1: 10’ x 12’

  • Subsection 2: 15’ x 13’

  • Base course: 4”

  • Bedding course: 1”

These depths apply across all subsections, but you can adjust each one individually if needed. The system will calculate the square footage and quantity of pavers automatically.

If your paver layout is irregular or includes multiple areas, use subsections to capture all measurements. Our example is regular enough to be handled in one section.

Additional Measurements

Below the grid, fill in the following details:

  • Over Excavation: How far past the borders you’ll excavate (e.g., 12”)

  • Over Excavation Depth: How deep the over excavation will be (e.g., 4”)

  • Edge Length: Total perimeter (e.g., 50’)

  • Waste: Defaults to 10%, but can be adjusted

Materials & Labor

Figure 2: Entering materials and labor for the Pavers Section.

Scroll down to the Materials/Labor section. Here’s where you’ll set up the materials used in the paver section. You’ll see these presets already included:

  • Subgrading/Subgrade Compaction

  • Base Course

  • Edge Restraints

  • Spikes

  • Bedding Course

  • Pavers

  • Interlocking Sand

The first line item, Subgrading/Subgrade Compaction, does not require a material to be assigned. This item calculates the labor needed to compact the soil in preparation for the base course.

By default, Elevation Advisor estimates 1 minute of labor per 10 square feet. You can adjust this calculation by clicking the blue Edit button next to the line item and modifying the values as needed.

Assigning Materials to Line Items

For all other line items:

  • Click Connect Item to assign a specific product from your materials catalog.

  • If you want to remove a preset line item, click the blue Edit button next to it and select Delete.

  • To add a new line item, click Add Material, then choose the appropriate product from your catalog.

⚠️ Interlocking Sand quantities are not automatically calculated due to the wide variety of paver styles and installation techniques. To specify the amount needed, simply click the Edit button next to the line item and enter the desired quantity manually.

To remove a preset:

  • Click the small trashcan and confirm by pressing Delete

To add more materials:

  • Click Add Material and choose from your catalog

Finalizing the Section

Once materials are set, you can:

  • Change Crew Size, Add labor, equipment, or subcontractors

  • Enter a Description of Services to explain the scope of work

  • Add Crew Notes for internal communication

If you need help with these steps, refer to the Beds article, which walks through the process in detail.
